![]() ![]() Sure, if you are in the market for a new router and want and affordable one that’s very easy to setup, the EA2700 will do fine. Software Will Complete EA2700’s Picture Right now, based on hardware alone, I cannot think of any reason to go out and buy the EA2700. Here are throughput numbers of the EA2700 compared to similarly spec’ed routers:Ĭlick here for 2.4 GHz throughput numbersĪt the 5 GHz band in 802.11n-only Mode, again, we have very good throughput, but Cisco’s E3000 and Netgear’s routers both performed a little better in testing. The 2.4 GHz Mixed Mode performance is very good, although not as robust as Cisco Linksys’ E3200. I had the latest firmware installed so I was puzzled why this happened. Rebooting the server corrected the problem. I noticed at one point the SSID for the wireless network had stopped broadcasting. Performance While testing the EA2700, I connected and disconnected to the Wi-Fi network a few times. For instance, the Port Forwarding screen lets you forward traffic to an IPv6 address. I noticed more IPv6 settings within advanced settings. The Cisco Connect and advanced settings interface does not differ much from the E-series of routers. This is where you do more complicated tasks like setup Port Forwarding. You can of course, opt to go into router’s traditional management interface-the advanced settings. Users can manage certain router settings like setup, guest access, parental controls, and other basic tasks. The router’s Cisco Connect software is the user-friendly interface that gets loaded after installlation. The wireless network’s SSID and password are both generated automatically, but you can change them during setup. The wizard checks for updates band then the router setup is automated a couple of clicks in the wizard and the router configures itself. I connected the router and started up the setup CD. ![]() ![]() You have to try to mess up the setup of the EA2700. Setup I thought the setup couldn’t get any easier than with the Cisco Linksys E series. This is great, because these days, there’s really no excuse why new routers should ship with Fast Ethernet (10/100 speed) ports. However, unlike its predecessor, the E2500, the EA2700 has Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. Since it’s the entry model in the EA lineup, there’s no USB port. It’s got a black, matte finish with a decorative blue-green overlay on top of the chassis. Cisco Linksys probably has the slickest-looking routers on the market and the EA2700 is no exception. That E-series' flat,"spaceship" design carries over to the EA2700. The router uses 2x2 MIMO antennas on both bands. It’s a dual-band router, capable of delivering 300 Mbps on both bands (and under perfect RF conditions). EA2700 Hardware and Specs The EA2700 is the upgrade to the EA2500. ![]()
